Kagoshima-Perth Sister City 45th Anniversary Celebration

On 18 January, Mayor MORI Hiroyuki of Kagoshima City in Japan visited the CLAIR Sydney Office. Prior to their visit to the CLAIR Sydney office, Mayor Mori and Kagoshima City delegation visited Perth, Western Australia, the sister city of Kagoshima City. In Perth, the two Cities celebrated the 45th anniversary of their sister city relationship and held a ceremony to celebrate the occasion. A commemorative tree planting ceremony was also held in the Kagoshima Park in Perth by Mayor Mori; Mr Andrew Hammond, Chair Commissioner of the City of Perth; and Ms Bindi Gove, a member of the Burswood Park Board. Over the past decades, the two Cities have deepened their ties mainly through school exchanges, and as a sign of their strong relationship, the main street in Kagoshima City is named ‘Perth Street’. At the CLAIR Sydney Office, Mayor Mori and the Kagoshima delegation was briefed on the politics, economy and society in Australia. The delegation and CLAIR Sydney staff also had meaningful discussions on various topics. The CLAIR Sydney Office will continue to support the sister city relationship between Kagoshima City and the City of Perth, which we are sure will continue to thrive in future. ●DSC02706 IMG_6144 84629178_2449476765162481_2280433746467356672_o 84322136_2449477378495753_6749736071409434624_o

  • To investigate environmental countermeasures, a student and her chaperone from Hikone Technological High School of Shiga Prefecture visited Australia from late July to early August. CLAIR Sydney conducted a briefing on 29 July about Australia’s culture and customs, and accompanied the group to a company visit in Brisbane on 31 July, where the company, known for producing products using a type of seaweed called Asparagopsis, shared insights into their research and production processes.

During the visit, they received information on efforts to reduce methane emissions from livestock using Asparagopsis, viewed from a carbon-neutral perspective. The student’s proactive participation in the meetings, driven by a desire to engage in environmental initiatives in the future, was impressive.

In addition to the briefing and accompaniment, we also reached out to the company to request a representative to discuss their Asparagopsis research. CLAIR Sydney will continue to support the activities of Japanese local governments conducting research on topics related to Australia.
