Kagoshima City is located in the southernmost part of the Japanese Archipelago and in the south of Kyushu Island. Its population is about 0.6 million and the city has well-developed commercial and service industries. The city acts as an industrial and transport hub for southern Kyushu. Sakurajima is an active volcano located just 4 km away from the city centre across Kinko bay and is a symbol of the city. Ferries take you from downtown Kagoshima to Sakurajima in just 15 minutes and they run 24 hours a day. It is impressive to see Sakurajima up close. If it erupts during your stay, you can say the volcano popped in to say hi!
