Japan and Friends Day 2024 in Gold Coast (21 Sep)

On Saturday, 21 September, Japan and Friends Day 2024 was held in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland. This event, organised by the Japanese Society of Gold Coast, has been running for over 20 years, with the purpose of interacting and building friendships with the local community.

CLAIR Sydney promoted various regions of Japan by distributing tourism brochures and materials, alongside the Consulate-General of Japan in Brisbane, members of the Japan Community of Queensland and Gifu Kenjinkai. Many attendees, who are fans of Japan, visited our booth and enthusiastically asked questions about visiting Japan.
In October this year, the State of Queensland and Saitama Prefecture will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their sister-state relationship, and Saitama Kenjinkai promoted Saitama by selling local mascot merchandise among other local items.

There were various stage performances, cultural experience booths, and a Mikoshi shrine-carrying performance, making the event lively and vibrant!
Through this event and the recent Matsuri Brisbane, we realised how many active Japanese communities and associations are working to promote Japan in Queensland. We are grateful to be able to collaborate with them in promoting Japan.
We will continue to promote Japan in various places so that local fans will fall in love with Japan even more, and to welcome new fans of Japan.

  • To investigate environmental countermeasures, a student and her chaperone from Hikone Technological High School of Shiga Prefecture visited Australia from late July to early August. CLAIR Sydney conducted a briefing on 29 July about Australia’s culture and customs, and accompanied the group to a company visit in Brisbane on 31 July, where the company, known for producing products using a type of seaweed called Asparagopsis, shared insights into their research and production processes.

During the visit, they received information on efforts to reduce methane emissions from livestock using Asparagopsis, viewed from a carbon-neutral perspective. The student’s proactive participation in the meetings, driven by a desire to engage in environmental initiatives in the future, was impressive.

In addition to the briefing and accompaniment, we also reached out to the company to request a representative to discuss their Asparagopsis research. CLAIR Sydney will continue to support the activities of Japanese local governments conducting research on topics related to Australia.
