Enjoy abundant nature, delicious food and hot springs!Kagoshima 1

Kagoshima City is located in the southernmost part of the Japanese Archipelago and in the south of Kyushu Island. Its population is about 0.6 million and the city has well-developed commercial and service industries. The city acts as an industrial and transport hub for southern Kyushu. The city also has many attractive tourist destinations. Enjoy nature at majestic Sakurajima and tranquil Kinko Bay, both with their own rich food culture and abundance of hot springs. There are direct flights to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul and Taipei, and many cruise ships make a port of call at Kagoshima Port. The city expects more exchanges of people, goods, and information in the future.Kagoshima

Sakurajima is an active volcano located just 4 km away from the city centre across Kinko bay and is a symbol of the city. Ferries take you from downtown Kagoshima to Sakurajima in just 15 minutes and they run 24 hours a day. It is impressive to see Sakurajima up close. If it erupts during your stay, you can say the volcano popped in to say hi!

Kagoshima is one of the top spa cities in Japan. You can enjoy various types of spring water and almost all spas cost just 390 yen. There are spa facilities from which you can enjoy majestic views of Sakurajima and Kinko Bay.Kagoshima 2

  • To investigate environmental countermeasures, a student and her chaperone from Hikone Technological High School of Shiga Prefecture visited Australia from late July to early August. CLAIR Sydney conducted a briefing on 29 July about Australia’s culture and customs, and accompanied the group to a company visit in Brisbane on 31 July, where the company, known for producing products using a type of seaweed called Asparagopsis, shared insights into their research and production processes.

During the visit, they received information on efforts to reduce methane emissions from livestock using Asparagopsis, viewed from a carbon-neutral perspective. The student’s proactive participation in the meetings, driven by a desire to engage in environmental initiatives in the future, was impressive.

In addition to the briefing and accompaniment, we also reached out to the company to request a representative to discuss their Asparagopsis research. CLAIR Sydney will continue to support the activities of Japanese local governments conducting research on topics related to Australia.
