On Sunday, 7 May, the Kodomo no Hi Japan Festival was held in the City of West Torrens in the western area of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia.
This is Adelaide’s largest Japanese festival, held annually since 1995, celebrating cultural and social ties between the people of Japan and Australia. Many visitors enjoyed Japanese music, martial arts performances, cuisine, and some activities such as crafts, goldfish scooping, and origami.
CLAIR Sydney ran a booth at this event for the second year in a row, promoting the JET Programme and local governments around Japan.
Many visitors came to the CLAIR Sydney booth seeking information on popular tourist destinations and cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan. Some were looking for information on Okayama Prefecture, which is a sister prefecture of South Australia, and also Himeji City, which is a sister city of Adelaide. Others were looking for information on famous tourist destinations, such as Kyoto, Osaka, and Okinawa, as well as areas they have not been to.
CLAIR Sydney will continue to support the promotion of local governments throughout Japan to strengthen ties between people in Japan and Australia and increase the number of Australians who are interested in Japan.
