Temple lodging on Mount Kova

The World Masters Games 2021 Kansai that was scheduled to be held in May this year has been postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new dates for the Games are Friday, 13 May-Sunday, 29 May 2022.

The World Masters Games is an international competition where any sports lovers over the age of 30 can compete.

 

The Games will host a total of 59 disciplines in 35 sports, of which seven disciplines in five sports will take place in Wakayama Prefecture: sailing, windsurfing, dance sports, indoor volleyball, rifle shooting, half marathon and ‘Ekiden’ (long-distance relay running).

Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trail

Wakayama Prefecture has recently been selected by Lonely Planet readers as the winner of the Sustainability category for its Best in Travel 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards. Spiritual experiences such as temple lodging on Mount Koya and hiking on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail are the most acclaimed attractions amongst the famous sites and activities on offer for tourists in the prefecture.

  • To investigate environmental countermeasures, a student and her chaperone from Hikone Technological High School of Shiga Prefecture visited Australia from late July to early August. CLAIR Sydney conducted a briefing on 29 July about Australia’s culture and customs, and accompanied the group to a company visit in Brisbane on 31 July, where the company, known for producing products using a type of seaweed called Asparagopsis, shared insights into their research and production processes.

    During the visit, they received information on efforts to reduce methane emissions from livestock using Asparagopsis, viewed from a carbon-neutral perspective. The student’s proactive participation in the meetings, driven by a desire to engage in environmental initiatives in the future, was impressive.

    In addition to the briefing and accompaniment, we also reached out to the company to request a representative to discuss their Asparagopsis research. CLAIR Sydney will continue to support the activities of Japanese local governments conducting research on topics related to Australia.
