From 30 October to 1 November, a delegation from the National Association of Towns and Villages came to Australia on a fact-finding mission. They visited a number of NSW government agencies to learn more about local policies on agriculture and multiculturalism and the conservation of nature and the eco-tourism in Blue Mountains. CLAIR Sydney accompanied the group and provided support in the lead up to this mission.
On 30 October, we visited Multicultural NSW in Parramatta, a city located in the west of Sydney, and talked about multiculturalism and policies in NSW. After that, we inspected Whitlam library in Fairfield City, a city with a large immigrant population.
On 31 October the delegation went to the Blue Mountains to learn about conservation activities and experience local ecotourism efforts thanks to the local guide.
The delegation was particularly interested in the presence and influence of Australia in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and how Australia and Japan can best complement each other’s strengths. They were also interested in the roles of Australia’s federal government and the NSW government, immigration and the acceptance of refugees.On 1 November, we invited officials from the NSW Department of Primary Industries to a meeting at the CLAIR Sydney office. They briefed the delegation on the state’s agricultural industry, in particular the production, management and export of grain and livestock.
